However, investors are likely concerned about the firm's lockup expiration two days later. On August 6, as much as 20% of SpaceX's shares could become available for sale. This does not mean that all those shares will immediately hit the market, but the possibility of a significant increase in supply is creating another reason for investors to remain cautious. ### Claim 55% Off TipRanks Two ETFs for long or short leverage on SPCX At the same time, reports of a possible merger with Tesla (TSLA) are adding even more uncertainty. According to *The Wall Street Journal*, executives are considering what would happen to Tesla's Chinese business if the two companies combined. Since SpaceX works closely with the U.S. government and holds national defense contracts, Chinese officials could be uncomfortable with it gaining control of Tesla's factories and supply chain knowledge, along with customer data in the country. ## **Spending Plans Will Likely Receive Close Attention** In addition to the potential merger, SpaceX's spending plans will likely receive close attention during the earnings report. S&P Global (SPGI) Visible Alpha analyst Melissa Otto expects capital spending to rise from $48.7 billion this year to $118.4 billion in Fiscal 2028. Meanwhile, total debt is projected to increase from $41.7 billion to more than $218 billion over the same period. As a result, SpaceX must show that its expensive infrastructure investments can eventually produce strong returns. Until then, the factors mentioned above will likely keep the stock volatile. ## **Is SPCX Stock a Good Buy?** Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on SPCX stock based on 23 Buys, six Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below.
