# BYD Shines While Nio, Li Auto, and XPeng Stocks Fall on Mixed July Deliveries

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers Nio (NIO), XPeng (XPEV), and Li Auto (LI) reported mixed performance for their July deliveries. Unlike BYD (BYDDF), the July deliveries of these three EV makers fell month-over-month amid a slowdown in the Chinese economy. Moreover, Chinese EV makers are facing intense competition in the domestic market. The Hong Kong-listed shares of BYD (HK:1211) closed 0.80% higher, while Nio (HK:9866), XPeng (HK:9868), and Li Auto (HK:2015) shares fell 0.98%, 3.08%, and 2.90%, respectively, on Monday. Meanwhile, the U.S.-listed shares of Nio, XPeng, and Li Auto were down 1%, 3.7%, and 2.6%, respectively, in pre-market trading (at the time of writing).

## **Nio Reports 71% Year-Over-Year Jump in July Deliveries**

Nio's deliveries surged about 71% year-over-year to 35,934 vehicles in July, but fell 11.5% compared to June. The company's Nio, Onvo, and FireFly brands all posted strong year-over-year growth in July deliveries, but saw a sequential decline in their volumes.

Last month, Goldman Sachs analyst Tina Hou upgraded NIO stock to Buy from Hold, as she expects the company to deliver the fastest volume growth, strong margins, and a solid turnaround in its profits and free cash flow in 2026. Hou expects the launch of the new ES8 and ES9 models to support Nio's turnaround, as she believes that these vehicles strengthened Nio's brand and position in the premium NEV (new energy vehicle) market, making it harder for rivals to challenge its competitive moat.

## **XPeng's July Deliveries Fail to Impress**

Unlike Nio, XPeng didn't report solid year-over-year growth in its July deliveries. The company's July deliveries grew by 3.6% year-over-year to 38,027 vehicles, but were down 5.2% month-over-month. July deliveries were impacted by supply constraints related to Mona L03.

The company expects to see large-scale Mona L03 deliveries in China in August. XPeng launched Mona L03 in Germany on July 16, as it continues to strengthen its international presence. The company recently revealed its long-term strategy for the Australian market, including plans to launch five new models in the second half of 2026.

## **Li Auto Reports a Decline in July Deliveries**

Li Auto delivered 30,468 vehicles in July, implying about a 0.9% year-over-year decline and a 1.4% drop from June. The company's July production was impacted by a headlight supply disruption for the all-electric Li i6 SUV.

Looking ahead, Li Auto is trying to revive its sales and profitability with the rollout of its high-margin L series extended-range models. The company launched the new-generation Li L6 on July 16.

## **BYD's Overseas Business Shines in July**

Meanwhile, BYD delivered 419,211 NEVs in July, up nearly 22% year-over-year and 3.9% month-over-month. The year-over-year growth marked a sharp improvement from the 5.5% increase in June. BYD's passenger NEV sales increased 20.5% year-over-year to 411,072 in July, while commercial NEV deliveries surged more than 149% to 8,139 units.

BYD's overseas business is a key driver of its growth. In July, the company sold 179,841 passenger vehicles and pickups in the overseas market, reflecting 124.3% growth. Overall, overseas deliveries represented about 43% of the company's July sales and helped more than offset the weakness in domestic business.

## **Wall Street's Take on Chinese EV Stocks**

Using TipRanks' Stock Comparison Tool, we see that Wall Street has a Strong Buy consensus rating only on BYD and is cautiously optimistic on Nio and XPeng stocks. Given persistent weakness, Wall Street has a Hold consensus rating on Li Auto.
