SpaceX Is Stuffing Its Rockets With Starlink — And Everyone Else Is Getting Shut Out

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

SpaceX's Starlink satellite fleet has become its rocket business's largest customer, accounting for nearly 80% of flights and generating 60% of revenue. This dominance has led SpaceX to refuse new launch slots beyond 2028, squeezing rivals like Rocket Lab and Blue Origin. As SpaceX prepares for its first public earnings report with projected losses in the launch segment, competitors are pursuing consolidation or facing technical setbacks.

SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) has turned its own satellite fleet into its rocket business’s biggest customer, and the timing puts a spotlight on Tuesday’s earnings release.

SpaceX posts its first quarterly report as a public company after Tuesday’s close with analysts modeling a loss near 22 cents per share on roughly $6.9 billion in revenue, per Perplexity Finance’s earnings calendar.

The report also triggers the first tranche of insider share unlocks tied to SpaceX’s June IPO lock-up schedule, a closely watched overhang for new shareholders.

Starlink Payloads Dominate

The bigger story sits behind the numbers. Starlink missions made up roughly 74% of SpaceX’s 165 Falcon 9 flights in 2025, and that share climbed toward 80% of the 2026 manifest, per launch-tracking data reported by Payload Space.

Rival satellite operators once treated as priority customers now get squeezed for room.

Bloomberg found that SpaceX has started refusing dedicated Falcon 9 slots beyond 2028 and stopped taking new rideshare bookings past that window.

SpaceNews separately confirmed at least nine rideshare partners were told the same, with manifests nearly full into 2029. Falcon 9’s dedicated launch price has climbed to about $74 million, up from $70 million in February, while rideshare pricing rose to $7,000 per kilogram over the same stretch.

Notably, Starlink generated 60% of SpaceX’s 2025 revenue and remains the only reliably profitable unit. The launch segment posted a loss.

Rivals are answering with consolidation instead of waiting in line. Rocket Lab Corp. (NASDAQ:RKLB) agreed in June to acquire Iridium Communications (NASDAQ:IRDM) for $8 billion, pairing its own rockets with an existing satellite fleet.

Rival heavy-lift vehicles are sidelined too. Blue Origin‘s New Glenn has been grounded since a May pad explosion. United Launch Alliance‘s Vulcan, jointly owned by Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA) and Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE:LMT), has been down since February over a booster issue.

SPCX Stock Price Activity: SpaceX stock was up 2.69% at $117.61 at the time of publication Tuesday, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
