I'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.Paramount Skydance (PSKY) shares rose over 4% after a trial date of March 2027 was set for the state lawsuit challenging its merger with Warner Bros. The news today was not all great for entertainment giant Paramount Skydance (PSKY), as the states' lawsuit seeking to stop its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) just got a trial date. The bad news here is that the trial date is March 2027, which ensures a hefty fee for Paramount should the merger actually go through. Investors were oddly upbeat, though, and Paramount shares gained over 4% in the closing minutes of Wednesday's trading.

United States District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin set a date for the Paramount trial on March 2, 2027, and the trial itself is expected to last 12 court days. The date, as it turns out, is something of a compromise. While it subjects Paramount to a massive ticking-fee of over $1 billion, it is not as bad as it might have been if California Attorney General Rob Bonta had gotten his way, and the trial started in April 2027 instead.
The suit alleges that Paramount would ultimately control a third of wide-release theatrical film distribution and about a third of basic cable programming in the United States if the deal went through. Paramount counters that the numbers are true, but are also necessary in order to compete with the dominant streaming platforms in the market. Despite the delay, and the substantial fee connected to it, Paramount still expects the deal to close after emerging victorious from the trial.
The Bollywood Cartoon
Meanwhile, Paramount has a plan to celebrate "the spirit of Bollywood" with an upcoming new animated film release. It is called Diya, and it is a "musical comedy" that features Nitya Mehra as director along with Jaydeep Hasrajani and Jake Goldman writing the script.
The movie itself features a teenage Indian-American girl who, somehow, finds herself sent into the world of a Bollywood musical. It is actually just part of a larger string of animated titles coming out of Paramount Animation, including Robert Rodriguez's The Naughty List and an animated film adapting, of all things, the CBS series Survivor.
