# SAIC VW ID. ERA 5S plug-in hybrid sedan to begin pre-sales on August 11

SAIC Volkswagen said on Friday that it will begin pre-sales of the ID. ERA 5S on August 11, marking another step in the Volkswagen joint venture's electrification push in China.

The ID. ERA 5S is a mid-size plug-in hybrid sedan and is expected to officially go on sale in the third quarter.

The model measures 4,836 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,505 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,766 mm, according to a filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in May.

The ID. ERA 5S uses a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid system, with its engine producing 80 kW and its drive motor delivering peak power of 130 kW.

It is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery, with cells supplied by Rept Battero Energy Co Ltd (HKEX: 0666).

The sedan has a WLTC pure-electric range of 120 kilometers and a combined range of more than 2,000 kilometers. Its fuel consumption with a depleted battery is 2.82 liters per 100 kilometers.

SAIC Volkswagen said the ID. ERA 5S is the Volkswagen brand's first sedan globally to feature advanced driver-assistance capabilities including urban NOA (navigation on autopilot).

The model is equipped with the Xingyun Zhixing advanced driver-assistance system, supporting highway NOA, urban NOA, automated parking, valet parking, remote parking and reverse-tracing functions.

Its exterior features a fastback profile and closed-off front fascia, along with a full-width daytime running light, an illuminated logo and semi-hidden door handles.

The first production ID. ERA 5S rolled off the assembly line on July 20. Under SAIC Volkswagen's naming convention, "5" denotes its positioning as a mid-to-upper-range sedan, while "S" stands for both Sedan and Smart.

The ID. ERA 5S is the second model in the ID. ERA lineup, following the ID. ERA 9X extended-range SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The compact ID. ERA 5X SUV is Volkswagen's first model built on the CMP (China Main Platform).
