Putting a private wireless network in at Smartlink is a good look for Comcast. Smartlink, as it turns out, handles wireless infrastructure operations for a range of carriers and tower companies. The move was intended to take the current legacy distributed antenna system (DAS) infrastructure and instead bring in a complete Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) private network.
With this, Smartlink now has better access to coverage—no more gaps cropping up in unusually-shaped portions of the building or places where coverage otherwise did not reach—as well as a secure private network. This gives Smartlink better access to smart-building applications as well, which can deliver some noteworthy results in terms of cost savings and quality of life.
A Bad Day for Universal Studios Hollywood
Meanwhile, anyone who went to Universal Studios Hollywood recently is being advised to check their immunization status, particularly against measles. Because, as it turns out, someone who had measles recently spent the day at the theme park, instead of staying home, and out of everybody's way.
Word from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health says that the visitor in question hit the park on July 26, and was there pretty much the full day, from 10 in the morning until nine at night local time. Given that measles viruses can remain airborne for up to two hours, reports note, that makes most anyone who was at the park that day potentially susceptible. And with over 2,300 infections reported in the United States this year so far, it is clear that measles cases are on the rise.
