In its IPO materials, the company estimated that Starlink Mobile could serve a global market worth about $740 billion. That does not mean SpaceX expects to make $740 billion in revenue. Instead, it means that is the size of the mobile market the tech company believes Starlink could eventually compete in. ### Claim 55% Off TipRanks High conviction SPCX bulls now have this Tradr ETF And recent comments from SpaceX suggest that the firm wants Starlink to become much more than a backup service for areas without normal cell coverage. The biggest change is that SpaceX appears to want to compete more directly with traditional wireless companies. In fact, President Gwynne Shotwell recently said that SpaceX plans to build more ground-based infrastructure so Starlink can become a "true mobile service." She also said that the company expects to win some customers away from AT&T (T), Verizon (VZ), and T-Mobile (TMUS). Interestingly, SpaceX previously agreed to buy 65 MHz of wireless spectrum from EchoStar (ECHO) for $19.6 billion in November 2025 in order to work toward this goal. For reference, spectrum is simply the range of radio frequencies that wireless companies use to send phone signals. By owning more of it, SpaceX would have more control over how Starlink Mobile operates. ## **SpaceX Already Has a Starting Point** Meanwhile, SpaceX already has a starting point. Through its partnership with T-Mobile, compatible phones can connect to Starlink satellites when normal cell service is unavailable. However, becoming a full wireless provider would require much more equipment and ground infrastructure. That is also where the biggest challenge comes in. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile have spent decades building nationwide networks and control much more spectrum. Because of that, analysts believe that SpaceX may need more partnerships or acquisitions instead of trying to build an entire network from scratch. Still, the opportunity helps explain why Starlink could become much bigger than just satellite internet. SpaceX estimates that there are about eight billion connected mobile devices worldwide outside of China and Russia. Therefore, even winning a small share of that market could create a large source of recurring revenue. ## **Is SPCX Stock a Good Buy?** Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on SPCX stock based on 24 Buys, five Holds, and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below.
