# Alibaba Cloud Plans to More Than Double Global Data Center Capacity

Alibaba Cloud is transforming its technological expertise into quantifiable commercial advantages. From data center construction to model services, Alibaba Cloud is accelerating the commercialization of AI through a vertical integration path spanning from infrastructure to the application layer.

As reported on Monday, on the infrastructure front, Alibaba Cloud, based on a fully modular design architecture, **has compressed the delivery timeline for large-scale AIDC data centers to 100 days**. In comparison, traditional domestic delivery cycles range from 6 to 12 months, while those in the United States range from 12 to 18 months. Meanwhile, construction costs have decreased by more than 10% compared to the previous generation.

This year, **Alibaba Cloud plans to more than double the global capacity for modular data centers.**

## 100-Day Delivery: Modular Architecture Reshapes Data Center Construction Logic

The explosive growth in demand for AI computing power is placing unprecedented demands on data center delivery speeds.

Traditional data center construction adopts a sequential construction model, where each phase proceeds one after another—first completing power supply and distribution installation, then connecting air conditioning systems—resulting in lengthy processes. Alibaba Cloud's CUBE 5.0 architecture breaks this logic. Through fully modular design, it has increased the overall modularity rate of five major systems—power supply, cooling, security, intelligence, and fire protection—from 30% in earlier years to 90%. Each component is manufactured in parallel at factories, pre-commissioned within containers, and shipped to the site for assembly-like lifting and installation.

According to Alibaba Cloud, the 100-day delivery cycle begins with basic plant structures or stacked containers. It involves 30 days for factory production and site preparation, 50 days for on-site installation, and 20 days for debugging and testing. Once the five major systems are deployed, servers and network equipment can immediately enter the facility.

This architecture achieves simultaneous improvements in cost and efficiency. The construction cost per kilowatt has decreased by 10% compared to the previous generation, and the one-time product test pass rate approaches 100%. Space utilization has significantly improved, with computing power density per unit area reaching 5 to 10 times that of the previous generation. The number of transformers has been nearly halved, allowing free switching between air cooling and liquid cooling. The Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) for air cooling does not exceed 1.15, and for liquid cooling, it does not exceed 1.10. Alibaba Cloud summarizes this as simultaneously solving the "impossible triangle" of delivery time, cost, and quality.

Currently, the CUBE 5.0 architecture has completed pilot verification in data centers such as Ulanqab and Zhongwei, and has obtained European CE certification based on EN standards and product access in Southeast Asia based on IEC standards. Alibaba Cloud stated that **it plans to more than double the global capacity for modular data centers this year.**

## AI Revenue Share Exceeds 30%, MaaS Becomes New Growth Engine

On the commercial front, Alibaba Cloud's revenue structure is rapidly shifting towards AI.

In May this year, Eddie Wu, CEO of Alibaba, stated during the fourth-quarter earnings call: "AI is driving the upgrade of Alibaba Cloud's entire business. Growth momentum is comprehensively shifting from traditional computing and storage to models, computing power, and Agent services."

"This quarter, **the share of AI-related products in Alibaba Cloud's external commercial revenue exceeded 30% for the first time**, with quarterly revenue reaching RMB 8.971 billion. The annualized revenue for AI business surpassed RMB 35.8 billion."

Wu predicted that the Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) from AI models and application services, including the Bailian MaaS platform, would exceed RMB 10 billion in the June quarter and surpass RMB 30 billion by the end of the year. He pointed out that the high-profit margin advantage of this revenue stream is gradually becoming prominent, serving as a "pillar for healthy, high-quality future revenue growth."
