# What's Going On With HSBC Stock Monday?

**HSBC Holdings plc** (NYSE:HSBC) said Monday it repurchased 340,000 ordinary shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange from **BNP Paribas Financial Markets SNC**. The purchase was part of its share buyback program announced Aug. 4. HSBC will cancel the shares.

## $1 Billion Stock Buyback Program

On Aug. 4, HSBC announced a share buyback program of up to $1 billion to reduce its outstanding share count. The program began Aug. 6 and is expected to run through Oct. 23.

The banking giant paid between 161.60 Hong Kong dollars and 162.80 Hong Kong dollars per share. The volume-weighted average price was 162.3102 Hong Kong dollars.

Since the program began, HSBC has repurchased about 1.13 million shares for approximately $23 million. The company had about 17.18 billion ordinary shares and voting rights outstanding before canceling the latest shares repurchased in Hong Kong.

## Recent Earnings

Last week, HSBC reported second-quarter and first-half 2026 results. First-half revenue rose 11% to $37.7 billion, helped by higher banking net interest income and growth in wealth fees and other income.

Revenue also benefited from an $800 million net favorable impact from notable items and a $700 million foreign-exchange translation benefit.

Banking net interest income rose $1.6 billion to $22.9 billion, supported by deposit growth and higher yields from reinvestment of the structural hedge. Net interest margin increased 4 basis points to 1.61%.

First-half profit before tax climbed 23% to $19.5 billion, driven by a $2.2 billion net favorable impact from notable items, higher banking net interest income and stronger fee and other income. Higher expected credit losses and planned increases in operating expenses partly offset the gains.

Profit after tax rose 23% to $15.3 billion from a year earlier.

For the second quarter, HSBC reported adjusted earnings per American depositary share of $2.25, below the $2.28 analyst estimate. Revenue of $19.12 billion topped the $18.79 billion estimate.
