# Trump Claims U.S. Military Has "100% Control" Over the Strait of Hormuz

On August 10 local time, U.S. President Trump stated that the U.S. side had completed mine clearance throughout the Strait of Hormuz, and that the U.S. Navy currently holds "100%" control over this critical waterway.

Trump also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is "now open," acknowledging that Iran occasionally continues to lay mines, but asserted that the U.S. military would clear them.

Furthermore, Trump reiterated that he would file a claim against Iran after Iran demanded compensation from the U.S. for military conflict—a statement consistent with his social media post from a few hours earlier.

Iran had previously stated that it would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz unless the U.S. met a series of conditions, including compensation.
