# TSMC Holding Back $1 Billion in Apple Orders Due to Memory Shortage? Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple's Shipment Cut Does Not Indicate Product Backlog

Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple did indeed reduce shipment plans for certain hardware this year due to a memory shortage, but this does not mean the supply chain has fallen into a passive situation of "producing first and waiting for materials later." Kuo emphasized that, according to his industry survey, there is no scenario where "TSMC first accumulated $1 billion worth of work-in-process processors and then waited for memory to arrive before proceeding with packaging." He noted that both TSMC and Apple are top-tier companies in global supply chain execution, maintaining close long-term collaboration. Under such a supply chain management system, large-scale passive backlogs of semi-finished goods are uncommon.
