# Structural Divergence Across US Sectors: AI Infrastructure Spinoffs and Consumer Contraction

US multi-sector companies are navigating a complex earnings season characterized by a stark divergence in operational performance between AI-adjacent infrastructure firms and struggling consumer brands, according to recent financial disclosures and people familiar with corporate strategies. This structural realignment is prompting rapid shifts in capital allocation. Market data indicates that investors are rotating out of discretionary consumer sectors and reallocating toward digital infrastructure providers and energy generators that exhibit clear, recurring revenue streams linked to the ongoing buildout of AI capabilities.

### Talen Energy (TLN.US)

Independent power producer Talen Energy (TLN.US) has seen significant year-to-date outperformance. For the second quarter of 2026, the company reported adjusted EBITDA of USD 374 million and adjusted free cash flow of USD 212 million. Following a successful PJM auction for the 2028/2029 planning year, where more than 10 gigawatts cleared at USD 325.00 per megawatt-day, the company raised its 2026 guidance. Talen is actively targeting the surging demand from data centers, notably through its power supply deal for an Amazon AWS campus.

### Flex (FLEX.US)

Global manufacturing company Flex (FLEX.US) is similarly capitalizing on the AI infrastructure buildout. For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, the company reported net sales of USD 7.9 billion, a 21% increase year-over-year. Flex is nearing a strategic separation, announcing plans to spin off its cloud and power infrastructure unit into a standalone publicly traded company. The newly formed SpinCo is expected to generate 65% to 75% revenue growth by focusing on thermal management for AI data centers.

### Under Armour (UAA.US)

In stark contrast, athletic apparel maker Under Armour (UAA.US) continues to reel from macroeconomic headwinds, with its shares under pressure. The company reported a 3% decline in revenue to USD 1.1 billion for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, marking its 13th consecutive quarter of falling sales. North American revenue dropped 9%. Despite the topline contraction, Under Armour expanded its gross margin by 590 basis points to 54.1% as part of its ongoing turnaround efforts.

### Cboe Global Markets (CBOE.US)

Market operator Cboe Global Markets (CBOE.US) delivered record second-quarter net revenue of USD 731.6 million, up 25% year-over-year, driven by a 30% surge in its derivatives business. Options trading volume grew 32%, prompting the exchange to raise its full-year 2026 organic net revenue growth forecast to the mid-to-high double-digit range. Cboe is also expanding its clearing services into European fixed-income markets.

### Alamos Gold (AGI.US)

Mid-tier gold producer Alamos Gold (AGI.US) posted Q2 2026 revenue of USD 594.1 million, a 36% jump year-over-year, on production of 130,600 ounces. However, a seismic event at the Young-Davidson mine impacted mining rates, forcing the company to lower its full-year 2026 production guidance to a range of 510,000 to 560,000 ounces. Exploration successes at the Island Gold mine could offset long-term risks, according to recent updates.

### DuPont (DD.US)

Diversified chemicals maker DuPont (DD.US) is executing a reverse stock split while reaffirming its 2026 financial guidance. The company continues to focus on margin stability amid broader industrial cyclicality and recently garnered recognition for its sustainability-focused water treatment technology.

### Quantum-Si (QSI.US)

Proteomics firm Quantum-Si (QSI.US) is advancing its commercialization phase. The company reported Q1 2026 revenue of USD 258,000, missing estimates, though its per-share loss came in better than expected. With USD 190.4 million in cash reserves extending its runway through 2028, the company is preparing for the broader rollout of its USD 425,000 Proteus sequencing platform.

### U.S. Xpress Enterprises (USAX.US)

Freight carrier U.S. Xpress Enterprises (USAX.US) was acquired and taken private by Knight-Swift in mid-2023 for an enterprise value of approximately USD 808 million. The transaction underscores the ongoing consolidation and cost-driven restructuring within the national less-than-truckload logistics network.

### CEMEX (CX.US) and Dynatrace (DT.US)

Elsewhere, building materials giant CEMEX (CX.US) continues to navigate pricing dynamics and cyclical demand in its core North American cement markets, leveraging strategic pricing actions to offset persistent cost inflation. Meanwhile, software intelligence provider Dynatrace (DT.US) is targeting enterprise cloud modernization budgets as IT spending shifts toward automated observability platforms. As large organizations scale their cloud-native applications, Dynatrace is well-positioned to capture a larger share of the resilient enterprise software market.
