# AppLovin's Growth Target Just Got Harder to Defend

Advertising technology business AppLovin Corp. (APP, Financials) slid around 2% in premarket trade after Bank of America downgraded the stock and questioned whether its long-term growth expectations are getting too lofty.

But analyst Omar Dessouky said the risks around AppLovin's stated objective of about 30% annual revenue growth had escalated. That concern comes at an inopportune moment.

The stock has already been battered by investors after its latest results highlighted worries over how quickly advancements in its AI-driven ad models can be turned into continuous growth. Now the argument is spreading beyond one quarter.

AppLovin's valuation rests heavily on the assumption that its technology can maintain up a remarkable pace of growth for years to come. But if Wall Street starts to lower the growth expectations behind that thesis, the company might be under pressure even if current results are excellent.

The downgrading does not mean that the business has stopped growing. That means investors may be increasingly less willing to pay for growth that hasn't happened yet.The next test is whether AppLovin can demonstrate its 30% aim remains attainable.
