# Hertz Global Stock Is Trending Wednesday: What's Going On?

**Hertz Global Holdings Inc** (NASDAQ:HTZ) shares are trending on Wednesday amid continued short-interest chatter.

- Hertz Global Holdings stock is facing resistance. What’s driving HTZ stock lower?

## Earnings Beat Triggers Retail Rally

Retail traders have been crowding into Hertz after last week’s earnings surprise, with discussion centered on the stock’s extremely high short interest, about 73% of available shares sold short, raising the odds of squeeze-style price action if buying pressure persists. The stock remains one of the most mentioned names on Reddit’s WallStreetBets as of Wednesday.

Hertz’s rally impulse traces back to a second-quarter print posted last week that showed revenue of $2.4 billion ($2.28 billion estimate) and an adjusted loss of 11 cents per share (24-cent loss estimate), numbers that helped kick off the retail-driven rally.

Hertz delivered top-line expansion despite operating a 1% smaller overall fleet, supported by an 80-basis-point increase in total vehicle utilization to 79%. Adjusted Corporate EBITDA expanded to $81 million, up from $18 million in the second quarter of 2025, topping the upper end of management’s revised guidance.

## Fleet Upgrade and Liquidity Position

The company highlighted strategic progress in its fleet transformation, reporting that 94% of its U.S. core fleet now consists of model year 2025 and 2026 vehicles. Hertz closed the quarter with nearly $1 billion in total liquidity, providing financial flexibility to continue funding its core business recovery and long-term mobility initiatives.

## Hertz Stock: Key Technical Levels To Watch

From a longer-term trend view, Hertz is still in a damaged structure: it’s down 54.78% over the past 12 months and remains well below its major longer-term averages (about 44% below the 100-day SMA at $4.31 and about 49% below the 200-day SMA at $4.72). Even after the recent bounce, the stock is still trading about 18% below its 50-day SMA ($2.94), which often acts as a "line in the sand" for whether a rebound is turning into a real trend change.

Near-term, the stock is holding above its 20-day SMA ($1.87), reflecting that the latest rally has improved the immediate setup even if the bigger trend is still bearish. The moving-average backdrop stays a headwind, with the 20-day SMA below the 50-day SMA (bearish) and a death cross in June (50-day below 200-day), which typically keeps rallies more "tradeable" than "trustworthy" until price can reclaim key averages.

Momentum is best framed through MACD right now: MACD being above its signal line with a positive histogram suggests downside pressure is easing versus the prior downswing, even if the broader trend hasn’t fully flipped. In plain terms, that signal-line crossover often shows buyers are gaining traction, but it still needs follow-through above the 50-day area to look like more than a squeeze-driven bounce.

- **Key Resistance**: $2.94 — aligns with the 50-day SMA, a common area where rebounds stall
- **Key Support**: $1.87 — near the 20-day SMA, which has been supporting the latest upswing
