Indian equity benchmarks ended lower for second consecutive session on Wednesday, with Nifty finishing below the 24,400 mark, as selling pressure intensified in Tata Group stocks following N Chandrasekaran’s decision to step down as Tata Sons chairman.

At close, the Sensex was down 187.90 points, or 0.24%, at 77,966.35, while the Nifty fell 35.75 points, or 0.15%, to 24,435.95.

_Here is how financial markets across the globe fared overnight:_

**GIFT Nifty (Down)**

GIFT Nifty was trading lower at around 24,422.50 in early trade, indicating a weak opening for the domestic equity markets.

**Asian Equities (Rise)**

Asian stocks rose as technology shares rallied and a subdued US inflation report eased concerns about an imminent interest-rate hike by the Federal Reserve.

**US Equities (Up)**

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq ended higher on Wednesday, lifted by upbeat quarterly results from CoreWeave and other AI infrastructure firms, while mild inflation data reinforced bets ‌that the US Federal Reserve will hold interest rates steady in September.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.26% to end the session at 7,748.50 points. The benchmark is up about 13% so far in 2026.

The Nasdaq gained 0.54% to 26,588.49 points for the session, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average ‌declined 0.04% to 53,770.27 points.

**Dollar Index (Down)**

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and the euro, was trading around 99.93.

**US Bond Yield (Down)**

The yield on benchmark US 10-year notes and US 2-year notes down marginally at 4.68% and 4.18%, respectively in the early trade.

**Asian Currencies (Up)**

Asian currencies mostly trade higher against the US dollar, with South Korean won up 0.28%, Taiwan dollar 0.18% and Thai baht 0.09%. Japanese yen and Singapore dollar gain around 0.06% each, while Indonesian rupiah falls 0.09% and Philippine peso slips 0.04%.

**Crude (Slips)**

Oil prices fell more than $1 on Thursday as forecasters lowered global oil demand projections for 2026 because of the disruptions from the US-Israeli war on Iran, though the supply constraints from the conflict provided a floor for the market.

**Gold (Up)**

Gold prices rose 0.5% and Silver prices gained 1% in the early trade on Thursday.

**Fund Flow Action**

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net sellers on August 12, offloading equities worth Rs 1,000 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued their buying spree, purchasing equities worth Rs 5,841 crore in the Indian equity market.

Hope you're all set for today's trade. We wish you a profitable day ahead.
