One anonymous source stated that in April of this year, as Anthropic gained an edge with its powerful Claude Mythos model preview, Brin spoke at an internal meeting attended by hundreds of employees, calling for the Google DeepMind AI lab to accelerate its development pace. Last November, Google's Gemini model briefly surpassed its competitors, but new versions released by Anthropic and OpenAI subsequently put Google back in a position of catching up.
