# Quantum Computing News: D-Wave, Quantinuum and QuEra Accelerate the Push Toward Commercial Quantum Computing

Welcome all to Thursday's quantum news recap. This edition brings a mix of commercialization, partnerships, and industry-building news, with Canadian government funding for D-Wave, a new Oracle cloud deal for Quantinuum, an application partnership between Zapata Quantum and QuEra, a new global quantum event in Cannes, and fresh signs that the sector will need far more engineers, not just PhDs, as companies try to scale.

## **1\. Canada Backs D-Wave's Advantage2 Software Work**

We begin with D-Wave Quantum Inc. (QBTS), which secured up to C$300,000 from Canada's National Research Council to develop software for its Advantage2 quantum computers. The funding itself is small, but the project is aimed directly at making D-Wave's systems more useful for commercial workloads. Its Burnaby team will work on graph minor-embedding algorithms for the company's Zephyr topology, which help map optimization problems onto the quantum hardware, and plans to add the resulting tools to D-Wave's open-source Ocean software kit.

The work could help customers tackle larger problems in areas including logistics, manufacturing, scheduling, and resource allocation.

## **2\. Oracle Brings Quantinuum's Helios Into Its Cloud**

Oracle Corporation (ORCL) signed a multi-year partnership with Quantinuum Inc. (QNT) to bring Quantinuum's Helios quantum computer into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Helios will be installed at an Oracle AI data center in the U.S., where customers will eventually be able to combine quantum computing with Oracle's GPUs and high-performance computing resources without moving workloads outside the OCI environment.

Oracle expects an initial version of its quantum service in the coming months, although the companies did not disclose the value of the deal or give a firm launch date. The partnership gives Quantinuum access to Oracle's enterprise customer base and lets Oracle add quantum hardware without building its own system. The financial effect is likely to take time, so the next detail worth watching is how quickly the service reaches customers and whether Oracle begins disclosing meaningful enterprise use.

## **3\. Zapata and QuEra Team Up on Quantum Applications**

Elsewhere, Zapata Quantum (ZPTA) partnered with privately held QuEra Computing to help businesses prepare applications for future fault-tolerant quantum systems. The deal combines QuEra's neutral-atom hardware platform with Zapata's hardware-agnostic software and algorithm work, with the companies focusing on helping enterprises, government programs, and high-performance computing centers identify and test use cases before more advanced systems become available.

The partnership is part of QuEra's Quantum Alliance program and comes as QuEra targets delivery of a megaqubit-class system through Amazon Web Services in 2028 ( $AMZN). Zapata is also working with Nvidia (NVDA) on using agentic AI to speed quantum algorithm development.

## **4\. Cannes Festival Targets Quantum's Commercial Crowd**

The first World Quantum Cannes Festival is scheduled for November 17 and 18 in Cannes, France, with more than 100 speakers expected from quantum companies, universities, research groups, investment firms, government, and enterprise businesses. The event is designed around commercialization and industry coordination rather than a single technology platform, with a Top Executive Program offering complimentary attendance to 100 C-suite executives interested in meeting quantum companies and other industry participants.

Conferences do not directly change the financial outlook for public quantum stocks, but the focus on enterprise buyers is notable as the sector tries to turn technical progress into customer adoption. For companies still generating limited commercial revenue, the useful part of events like this will be whether they lead to new partnerships or contracts rather than simply adding another venue for industry discussion.

## **5\. Quantum Companies Need Engineers, Not Only PhDs**

The quantum industry's hiring model is starting to change as companies prepare to build larger systems, with Diraq among the firms recruiting engineers who do not hold PhDs. The Quantum Economic Development Consortium counted roughly 16,500 quantum professionals worldwide in 2025, while the workforce could grow to about 840,000 by 2035, creating a talent gap that doctoral programs alone are unlikely to fill.

Diraq is already hiring graduates with undergraduate engineering backgrounds and is working with UNSW Sydney on a Bachelor of Quantum Engineering program expected to produce 40 to 50 engineers a year. The shift resembles the semiconductor industry, where a smaller group of researchers develops core technology while a much larger base of engineers and technicians handles fabrication, testing, and production.
