# JD.com recorded its first quarterly revenue decline since going public, with its stock price plummeting in Hong Kong

Since its IPO in 2014, JD.com has reported its first quarterly revenue decline, with its stock price plummeting 10% in Hong Kong.

JD.com's revenue in the second quarter fell by 2.9% to RMB 346.4 billion (approximately USD 51.4 billion), but still slightly exceeded analysts' average expectations. The revenue decline overshadowed better-than-expected profit performance: JD.com’s net profit grew by 15% to RMB 7.1 billion.

JD.com CEO Xu Ran warned on Thursday that the company is facing "short-term revenue pressure," but emphasized that losses in the delivery business are narrowing and the profitability of its core business, JD Retail, remains robust.

To seek new growth opportunities, JD.com is accelerating its expansion into markets outside mainland China and is focusing on markets with higher profit margins. JD.com has launched the online retail platform Joybuy and delivery service JoyExpress in Europe, while also collaborating with brands in Hong Kong to expand its local business. JD.com has also proposed acquiring the German retail company Ceconomy AG, but this acquisition plan has faced resistance, with the European Commission launching an in-depth subsidy investigation into the deal.

The company has not announced significant initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence, while other Chinese internet peers are investing heavily in this area. JD.com has partnered with Tencent and is utilizing Tencent's AI chatbot to provide intelligent shopping services
