The two companies say they plan to deploy 2,000 of Pony.ai's self-driving taxis across Europe, and expand to the Middle East for the first time. In late March, Uber and Pony.ai launched a commercial robotaxi service in Croatia's capital of Zagreb, which they claim is the first in Europe. Now, the companies plan to rollout robotaxis to four other European cities, though which cities has not been disclosed publicly. ## **Taking on Google and Tesla** Uber is relatively new to the robotaxi space and behind market leaders Alphabet (GOOGL) and Tesla (TSLA). However, Uber has chosen to focus its robotaxi operations in Europe rather than the U.S. market that is currently dominated by Alphabet-backed robotaxi operator Waymo. Waymo currently has a fleet of around 5,000 vehicles, primarily in the U.S. Recently, Waymo announced plans to begin testing self-driving robotaxi rides in London, England and has received approval in June of this yearto start tests in four other European countries. Uber is also testing its robotaxis in Tokyo, Japan and is engaging with officials around the world to "lay the groundwork for global operations," according to a written statement from the company. ## **Is UBER Stock a Buy?** Uber Technologies' stock has a consensus Strong Buy rating among 33 Wall Street analysts. That rating is based on 30 Buy and three Hold recommendations issued in the last three months.
