Indian benchmark indices remained under pressure on August 14, with the Nifty extending its losing streak to the fourth consecutive session, as selling in metal, auto and IT stocks weighed on the benchmarks. Investors remained cautious amid elevated crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical concerns.

At close, the Sensex was down 70.71 points or 0.09 percent at 78,009.25, and the Nifty was down 29.85 points or 0.12 percent at 24,366.

_Here is how financial markets across the globe fared overnight:_

**GIFT Nifty (Down)**

GIFT Nifty was trading lower at around 24,401 in early trade, signalling a negative opening for the domestic equity markets.

**Asian Equities (Down)**

Asian shares drifted sideways on Monday while investors kept a wary eye on oil prices, which notched sizeable gains last week as the lack of progress towards ending the Iran war kept inflation risks tilted to the upside.

**US Equities (Slip)**

The US stock market edged back from its all-time high Friday following the latest report on the economy to come in surprisingly weak, this time about how much shoppers are spending at retailers. Such data could keep interest rates low, which is something Wall Street loves, but it also raises the risk of a slowing economy when inflation is still high.

S&P 500 fell 13.23 points to 7,785.76. Despite the loss, it nevertheless closed out a third straight winning week, its longest such streak since a nine-week run that ended in May.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 107.58 to 53,732.41, and the Nasdaq composite sank 73.86 to 26,729.16.

**Dollar Index (Down)**

The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was 0.1% lower, trading near its lowest levels of the month at 99.519.

**US Bond Yield (Down)**

The yield on 10-year Treasuries and 2-year Treasuries was down marginally at 4.68% and 4.15%, respectively..

**Asian Currencies (Up)**

Asian currencies are trading mostly higher against the US dollar in early trade. The Indonesian rupiah leads gains, rising 0.28%, followed by the Taiwan dollar (0.27%), South Korean won (0.36%) and Japanese yen (0.18%). The Thai baht (0.14%), Malaysian ringgit (0.08%) and Singapore dollar (0.04%) are also firmer, while the Philippine peso declines 0.21%. The Chinese renminbi is largely flat, up just 0.004%.

**Crude (Down)**

Oil prices barely moved in early trade on Monday as tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowed over the weekend with no peace deal in sight between the United States and Iran to end the conflict in the Middle East.

**Gold (Up)**

Gold was steady as traders weighed the competing impacts of cooling US economic data and energy-led inflation pressure on the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate path.

**Fund Flow Action**

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers on August 14, purchasing equities worth Rs 508.12 crore. Meanwhile, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) extended their buying streak, investing Rs 356.40 crore in the Indian equity market.

Hope you're all set for today's trade. We wish you a profitable day ahead.
