# Stellantis Planning To Sell Ontario Auto Plant: Reports

Media reports say that automaker Stellantis (STLA) is planning to close and sell its idle vehicle manufacturing plant located in Brampton, Ontario outside of Toronto.

The reports are based on comments from Unifor, the union that represents autoworkers at the now defunct Ontario plant.

Unifor says Stellantis is considering permanently closing and selling the Brampton assembly plant, which has not been active since 2023.

The union says it received notice from the automaker on Aug. 13 that it is evaluating the sale and permanent closure of the manufacturing facility.

Stellantis had been talking about retooling the plant for Jeep production. However, those plans were reportedly paused in 2025 due to U.S. tariffs.

Late last year, Stellantis announced that it was moving production of the Jeep Compass slated for Brampton to America, leaving the fate of the Brampton plant in limbo.

Unifor says its collective agreement with Stellantis requires the automaker to provide no less than one year’s notice in the event of a closure or sale.

In a statement, Stellantis said it’s committed to finding a solution for the plant.

Unifor local 1285 represents 2,200 Unifor members who previously worked at the Brampton, Ontario plant.

Stellantis, which makes Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, has seen its stock decline 53% this year to trade at $5.36 U.S. per share.
