# Home Depot Q2 Preview: Data Shows Visits Down, Will Earnings Say Otherwise?

Home improvement retailer **Home Depot Inc** (NYSE:HD) looks to turn shares positive in 2026 with a strong second-quarter financial report Tuesday before market open.

Here are the earnings estimates, analyst ratings and key items to watch.

## Home Depot Q2 Earnings Estimates

Analysts expect Home Depot to report second-quarter revenue of $47.27 billion, up from $45.28 billion, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in three straight quarters and in seven of the last 10 quarters overall.

Analysts expect Home Depot to report second-quarter earnings per share of $4.73, up from $4.68 in last year’s second quarter.

The company has beaten analyst estimates for earnings per share in two straight quarters and in seven of the last 10 quarters overall.

## Key Items to Watch

The earnings report from Home Depot comes one day ahead of rival **Lowe’s Companies** (NYSE:LOW), which will report on Wednesday before market open.

On the earnings-per-share front, Lowe’s has been stronger recently, with more than 10 straight quarters beating analyst estimates. Revenue has been similar for both, with Lowe’s also beating analyst estimates for revenue in seven of the last 10 quarters overall. Home Depot has the longer revenue beat streak at three, while Lowe’s comes in at two quarters.

A Placer.ai report tracking visits to both retailers shows Lowe’s with a 0.4% year-over-year gain in the second quarter, while Home Depot visits were down 0.3% year-over-year.

For Home Depot, visits were up year-over-year in both April and June, but declined in May.

Visits play a vital role in Home Depot’s revenue, but the size of purchases and their dollar value matter more, given the many large-ticket items sold.

In the first quarter, the company said consumers were delaying spending on larger home-improvement projects due to the housing market and geopolitical tensions. Investors and analysts will be looking for commentary on whether this has improved in the second quarter.

Home Depot recently announced plans to accelerate its position in the home improvement market through consolidation of key functions across various segments. One of the biggest focuses is on the Professional segment, which is estimated to be worth $700 billion.

Investors and analysts may hear more about these renewed focuses, which could translate into additional market share gains and higher revenue.

Another item to watch on the earnings call could be commentary on CEO **Ted Decker.** The company recently announced that he would be taking a temporary medical leave of absence for a couple of months. The company has already named the people who will shift duties to cover Decker, but analysts could look to question what this time period could look like for the company.

The full-year outlook and guidance will be key for the company and its stock reaction, with two more quarters to go. The company reaffirmed fiscal 2026 guidance after the first quarter. A double beat in the second quarter could see investors and analysts wanting guidance raised to show more optimism in the second half of the year.
