> - BYD has officially named the previously teased 8-series Tang the third-generation Tang, a five-seat SUV with up to 850 km of range.
> - The third-generation Tang measures 5,045 mm in length and features BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) will debut its third-generation Tang SUV at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, adding another new model to the revamp of its flagship vehicle lineup.

Lu Tian, general manager of sales for the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker's Dynasty lineup, said on Weibo on Tuesday that the previously teased 8-series Tang has officially been named the third-generation Tang.

The new model is a five-seat mid-to-large SUV and will form a dual-flagship lineup with the full-size Da Tang, or 9-series Tang, which was launched in June.

The third-generation Tang features BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, and comes standard across the lineup with the God's Eye B advanced driver-assistance system, according to previously released information.

The SUV measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.

For power, the new model uses a permanent-magnet synchronous motor with a peak output of 300 kW (402 hp).

It offers battery packs with capacities of 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh, providing CLTC electric ranges of 730 kilometers, 830 kilometers and 850 kilometers, depending on the variant.

With its flash charging technology, the battery can be charged from 10% to 70% in about 5 minutes at normal temperatures.

The third-generation Tang, like the Da Tang, is equipped with BYD's DiSus-A intelligent body control system, featuring dual-chamber air suspension and an intelligent road-preview function.

BYD has not disclosed pricing or a launch date. The company previously said the 8-series Tang would go on sale in the second half of the year.

The Tang family's refresh is important for BYD, as sales of the lineup have fallen sharply after a year without a major update.

The Tang lineup sold 9,282 units in June, down 48.55% year-on-year, while first-half sales fell 49.87% to 41,403 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

BYD has been accelerating the revamp of the flagship nameplate since last year. The Da Tang EV, its first D-segment flagship SUV, was launched on June 17 with a starting price of 239,900 yuan ($35,330) and a CLTC range of up to 950 kilometers. Pre-sale orders had exceeded 150,000 units by the time of its launch.

The Chengdu Auto Show will also mark the public debut of the Da Han, the Dynasty lineup's first D-segment flagship sedan, whose all-electric version offers a range of up to 1,008 kilometers.

The twenty-ninth Chengdu International Motor Show will run from August 21 to August 30. It is China's first Class A Auto Show in the second half of the year, bringing together nearly 120 brands and about 1,600 vehicles. BYD will have a dedicated group pavilion in Hall 9.
