Despite a Buy rating from Benchmark with an $115 target, investors reacted negatively. # Disney Stock Drops as CEO Josh D'Amaro's D23 Magic Fails to Cast a Spell on Investors

Walt Disney stock (DIS) dropped 3.1% on Monday to close at $103.10, showing a slight 0.3% rise in pre-market trading on Tuesday morning. The pullback in DIS stock came right after Disney's big D23 fan event in California ended. CEO Josh D'Amaro, who took over in March, started the event by sharing his plan to fix the company.

D'Amaro shared his vision for leaning on Disney's biggest fan-favorite characters while also trying out new, original stories. D23 announcements included a new animated film titled *Clay*, a third installment in the *Zootopia* franchise, and early previews for *Frozen 3*, a live-action *Tangled* adaptation, and *The Bluey Movie*. Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey reiterated a Buy rating with a $115 price target, noting the slate provides revenue visibility through 2029.

## **Disney's Video Games and Theme Parks Drive Fan Connection**

Alongside movie news, Disney Games shared new project updates to keep players connected to its stories. Highlights included a trailer for *Kingdom Hearts IV*, a new *Kingdom Hearts* cartoon for Disney+ and Disney Channel, and a preview for *Marvel's Wolverine*.

Disney also teamed up with Epic Games to launch *Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite*. This project links the real-life Star Wars ride at Disney theme parks straight into the *Fortnite* video game. Disney Games boss Sean Shoptaw explained that bringing real park rides into digital games helps build lasting connections with fans of all ages.

## **Movie Turnaround Remains Vital for Disney Stock**

Strong ticket sales remain key to boosting Disney's stock price. U.S. movie theater visits are up 8.1% compared to last year, but overall crowds remain 27% below 2019 levels. Disney shares have grown just 8% over the past ten years, falling far behind the broader S&P 500 market index. The stock currently trades at 14.2 times projected earnings, well below its five-year average of 20.5 times.

Recent theater releases show mixed results. Big hits like *Inside Out 2* ($653 million domestic), *Toy Story 5* ($475 million domestic), and *Lilo & Stitch* ($424 million domestic) brought in strong revenue. However, smaller ticket sales for live-action movies like *Moana* ($124.5 million domestic) and *Snow White* ($87.2 million domestic) show why Disney needs more consistent box-office wins.

## **What Risks Does Disney Face?**

The TipRanks Risk Analysis tool tracks 23 main business risks for Disney in Q1 2026. The biggest concern lies in its Ability to Sell. This area accounts for 30% of all tracked risks and sits well above the industry average. Production risks also sit slightly higher than competitors because box-office foot traffic remains low.

Disney holds a much stronger position in Finance & Corporate and Tech & Innovation. Both categories show lower risk levels than the sector average. Factors in Legal & Regulatory, Production, and Macro & Political round out the rest of the profile.
