Tech stocks declined. Xiaomi Corporation-W (01810) opened nearly 3% higher against the trend, at HKD 26.96. Among the constituents of the Hang Seng Index, Xiaomi Corporation-W, Hong Kong and China Gas (00003), and New Oriental-S (09901) had the largest gains, while China Unicom (00762) and Luoyang Molybdenum (03993) had the largest declines. The storage and optical communication sectors fell sharply, with Zhongji Innolight (03308) down nearly 6%, YOFC (06869) down nearly 7%, SMIC (00981) down over 3%, ASMPT (00522) down nearly 4%, and Hua Hong Semiconductor (01347) down nearly 3%. The overnight Philadelphia Semiconductor Index plummeted 4.98%, with storage and optical communication AI concept stocks suffering heavy losses. Gold stocks were sluggish, with Lingbao Gold (03330) down over 4%, Shandong Gold (01787), and Chifeng Gold (06693) down about 3%. Overnight spot gold closed down 1.86%, at USD 4,334.57 per ounce. Overnight, the three major U.S. stock indices collectively closed down, with the Nasdaq down 1.33%, the S&P 500 down 0.69%, and the Dow down 0.22%.
