Now, Microsoft may have a new winner in chip design as its AI chips deliver impressive efficiency gains. Investors were sufficiently pleased to give Microsoft stock modest gains in Wednesday afternoon's trading. The custom artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators are giving Microsoft as much as 40% efficiency-per-watt gains over the previous generation, which is huge for Microsoft, and for its potential to make AI infrastructure a profitable new business. Better yet, it also helps address doubts that investors may have had about Microsoft's ability to increase AI operations while actually spending less per unit to get there, a double-edged win. ## **Price Hikes Mean Fewer Sales** Meanwhile, new projections around the Xbox Helix have emerged, and they do not look good. In fact, Ampere Analysis analysts have discovered that releasing the Helix at $1,000 in 2028 could result in a 38% drop in sales over the first five years. That also leads to a drop for the entire console games and services market, which would drop about 12% lower than it would if the consoles were offered at $700. Ampere's potential solutions to a four-figure launch price include stretching out the current generation to wait for better prices, offering greater subsidies along with optimized sales channels, and some kind of innovation that helps drop prices. ## **Is Microsoft a Buy, Hold or Sell?** Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on MSFT stock based on 33 Buys and one Hold assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below.
