# Fed Minutes: Policymakers Hint at Rate Hikes if Inflation Fails to Cool

The late July minutes stated: “Many participants assessed that it might be necessary to tighten (monetary) policy if inflation does not decline. Some participants commented that current financial conditions may be insufficient to exert a restrictive effect, thereby pushing inflation back down to 2%.”
