# Trump Expresses Support, Paving the Way for "Perpetual Contract Giant" Hyperliquid to Enter the U.S. Market in Compliance

Trump publicly endorsed the crypto derivatives platform Hyperliquid, sending a strong signal that the White House is pushing for the repatriation of offshore crypto trading infrastructure to the United States.

According to a Bloomberg report on Thursday, Trump stated during a meeting with crypto and prediction market executives at the White House on August 19 that **Michael Selig, Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), is working to bring Hyperliquid into the U.S. market in a "fully compliant and legal manner."** This marks the clearest statement yet from the White House regarding the platform's compliant entry into the U.S.

The statement quickly rippled through the market. Among the assets in the Hyperliquid ecosystem, the price of the platform's native token, HYPE, surged. The stock price of Hyperliquid Strategies Inc., a listed company whose core strategy involves holding HYPE, soared by as much as 31% during intraday trading. The company is a digital asset reserve entity, essentially a listed vehicle accumulating cryptocurrencies, providing traditional equity investors with an indirect channel to bet on Hyperliquid's growth. Traditional exchanges, however, faced significant pressure. Cboe Global Markets fell as much as 6.1% intraday, while CME Group's decline widened to 3.4%, with both hitting their daily lows.

Hyperliquid currently operates outside the United States and does not officially offer services to U.S. traders. Once compliance is achieved, U.S. users will gain a legal channel to use the platform within the regulatory framework. Meanwhile, the CFTC has recently outlined conditions for regulated U.S. platforms to offer perpetual contract products, providing a policy basis for Hyperliquid's path to compliance.

## What is Hyperliquid: An Offshore Rising Star in the Perpetual Contracts Sector

Hyperliquid is a crypto trading platform specializing in perpetual contracts. Perpetual contracts are leveraged contracts with no expiration date, allowing traders to speculate on cryptocurrency prices without holding the underlying assets. The platform runs on its own blockchain of the same name and was co-founded by Jeff Yan, a former trader at Hudson River Trading. Its main development entity, Hyperliquid Labs, is registered in Singapore.

**This year, Hyperliquid has rapidly attracted Wall Street's attention due to strong demand for contracts linked to real-world assets such as stocks and commodities, growing into a core venue for this asset class, which has historically flourished mainly outside the U.S. due to regulatory restrictions.**

Joshua Lim, Co-Head of Global Markets at FalconX, stated, "Hyperliquid has long been a benchmark for the 'convergence' concept—where traditional asset classes achieve 24/7 trading, margin management, and settlement on crypto infrastructure. It is exciting to see the government and regulators recognize it as a market structure innovator and open it to U.S. market participants."

## Uncertainties Remain on the Path to Compliance

Despite the clear political signals, there is currently no clear answer on how Hyperliquid can legally offer perpetual contract products in the United States. Compliance requirements may create tension with the platform's core decentralized characteristics, and retaining its original operating model within the regulatory framework presents a practical challenge for all parties involved.

Ayesha Kiani, Chief Operating Officer at Monarq Asset Management, pointed out, "Trump's comments on Hyperliquid and the immediate reaction of HYPE further confirm how rapidly the regulatory and political environment for digital assets is shifting. Worth noting is not just the price volatility itself, but the fact that decentralized market infrastructure is increasingly entering mainstream policy discussions."

Nevertheless, once the channel for compliant entry into the U.S. is opened, Hyperliquid will gain access to a larger customer base and capital pool. However, it will also face a true test: whether a trading model forged outside traditional U.S. rules can continue to operate effectively within the regulatory framework.
