# Amazon Stock (AMZN) Drops Despite $2B Prime Video Investment Push

Shares in Amazon (AMZN) fell by 2% to about $261 per share on Thursday afternoon. This decline came even after the e-commerce giant said in a statement that it plans to invest more than $2 billion to grow its Prime Video streaming service in Latin America. The investment is targeted for between 2027 and 2030.

## **Amazon Doubles Down on Prime Video Push**

The announcement comes weeks after reports indicated Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and chairman, is pushing for an AI-first makeover of Prime Video.

In the new statement, Amazon said the investment will focus on more than doubling original local-produced content. It will also target acquiring rights to stream live sports. The company plans to introduce more than 25 new programs in 2027 alone.

The investment will target Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. Amazon called the plan "a first-of-its-kind investment" in the region.

According to Amazon, its live sports services are growing at an "unprecedented pace" in the region.

"In 2026 so far, more than 20 million households across Latin America have tuned in to watch sports on Prime Video, which already exceeds the service's total for all of 2025," Amazon explained. "In advertising terms, that translates to an estimated audience of more than 60 million fans reached across Latin America this year alone."
