Discussions are ongoing with no confirmed plan yet. The new 'Original Content Rewards Programme' retires the current system in September. Stablecoins offer faster, lower-cost cross-border payments compared to traditional banking. This aligns with Musk's broader financial ambitions for X and his other ventures like SpaceX, which already utilize stablecoins."

# Elon Musk’s X Could Use USDC To Pay Global Creators As It Replaces Its Existing Revenue Sharing Model

## X Explores USDC Payments For Creators As It Reworks Revenue Sharing

X is exploring whether stablecoins such as Circle’s USDC could be used to pay influencers and content creators, as Elon Musk’s social media platform prepares to replace its existing creator revenue-sharing system.

The discussions are still ongoing and have not resulted in a confirmed payment plan, according to people familiar with the matter.

X has not officially announced USDC or any other stablecoin as a payout option.

## X Looks To Stablecoins For Global Creator Payments

The talks centre on the use of dollar-pegged stablecoins, with USDC among the options being considered.

Other stablecoins could also be part of the discussions.

For X, stablecoin payments could offer a simpler way to send dollar-denominated rewards to creators in different countries.

Unlike traditional international transfers, stablecoin transactions can move across borders without relying entirely on conventional banking networks, potentially reducing delays and payment costs.

The discussions are not limited to X.

The people familiar with the matter said other social media companies are also testing stablecoins as a way to pay creators and influencers.

Stablecoins have grown into a major part of the crypto market, with their combined market value surpassing $300 billion.

Their use for payments has also increased as companies look for faster ways to move money across borders.

## Why Is X Changing Its Creator Payment System?

The potential stablecoin plan comes as X moves away from its existing Creator Revenue Sharing programme.

X stopped accepting new applications for the programme on 7 August, with the existing system scheduled to be retired on 7 September.

It is being replaced by the Original Content Rewards Programme, which places greater emphasis on original reporting, analysis, creativity and commentary.

Under the new programme, X currently uses a payment processor to handle creator rewards.

The company has not said that stablecoins will be used, meaning any USDC-based payout system remains a possible future addition rather than a confirmed feature.

The timing of the discussions is therefore closely linked to X's broader overhaul of how creators are paid and rewarded on the platform.

## Musk’s Other Businesses Already Use Stablecoins

Musk's interest in crypto payments extends beyond X.

SpaceX uses stablecoins to collect international payments from Starlink customers, particularly in markets where traditional payment systems can be less convenient.

That experience could provide a foundation for considering a similar approach for X's global creator network.

X is also developing its own payments infrastructure through X Money, as Musk continues to pursue his long-standing goal of turning the platform into a broader financial and communications service.

The company has also brought in executives with crypto industry experience.

In March, X hired Benji Taylor, a former design lead at Coinbase's Base blockchain platform, as head of design across X, xAI and SpaceX.

Taylor's appointment gives the wider group additional experience in areas including crypto wallets and decentralised finance, although there is no confirmation that his hiring is directly connected to the stablecoin discussions.

## USDC Could Give X A Global Dollar Payment Rail

For creators earning money from an international audience, receiving dollar-denominated stablecoins could provide an alternative to conventional bank transfers.

USDC is designed to maintain a value of $1, allowing payments to be made in a digital asset while avoiding the price swings associated with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether.

For X, the approach could also fit with its wider plans to combine social media, commerce and financial services within one platform.

However, the company has yet to confirm whether USDC will become part of its creator payment system, and there is no announced launch date.

Until X provides further details, creators should not assume that rewards under the Original Content Rewards Programme will be paid in stablecoins.
