While Anthropic peaked at nearly 44% market share in July, OpenAI has grown faster in Q3, narrowing the difference to roughly 40%. This shift is attributed to the popularity of OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol model and higher costs associated with Anthropic's Fable 5. Overall demand for paid AI services among Ramp users rose to 56% in July." datetime: "2026-08-21T14:52:40.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/296633433.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296633433.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/296633433.md) generator: "portal-rs" --- # OpenAI Is Closing in Fast on Anthropic With U.S. Businesses, Ramp Data Shows New data shows OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, catching up with Anthropic, the AI firm behind Claude, among U.S. businesses on Ramp, a renowned fintech company. The data comes from Ramp's AI Index, which tracks AI use and spending across more than 70,000 U.S. businesses that use its bill pay and corporate card products. According to Ramp, Anthropic first took the lead in May, when it reached 41% of Ramp's paying business users, compared with 39% for OpenAI. By July, Anthropic had extended that lead by 43.5% of businesses in the index paid for subscriptions or tokens. However, recent data show that OpenAI is now growing faster in Q3 to date. In the same July, OpenAI's share rose by 0.23%, narrowing the gap by about 0.87%. While these figures do not yet show OpenAI overtaking Anthropic, it highlights how close the ChatGPT creator is to reclaiming the ground it lost. Meanwhile, Ramp said the trend could still change before the quarter ends. ## **GPT-5.6 Sol Helps OpenAI Gain Ground as AI Demand Grows** OpenAI's recent growth suggests that businesses are now showing more interest in AI providers as new models become available. Kharazian attributed part of OpenAI's growth to its latest AI model family, GPT-5.6 Sol. The economist said the model is becoming an increasingly popular choice among developers. He also said Anthropic's Fable 5 model has seen weaker adoption because of its higher cost and data retention needs. At the same time, overall demand for paid AI services continues to grow among Ramp customers. Data from Ramp show that the share of businesses paying for AI services rose from 50% in March to nearly 56% in July. The increase in AI adoption gives both OpenAI and Anthropic room to grow their revenue, even as they compete for a larger share of corporate spending. ## **How Do I Invest in OpenAI and Anthropic?** OpenAI and Anthropic remain private companies, meaning only accredited investors can buy their shares before a potential IPO. Still, investor interest in both AI firms has surged, with TipRanks data showing OpenAI's estimated valuation has climbed more than 172% YTD, but remains less than Anthropic's 235% surge in the same period.
