The announcement appears to have spooked investors over further dilution, especially after AAOI spent much of 2026 raising capital through similar programs. Under the new agreement with Raymond James and Needham, the company can sell up to $600 million of common stock from time to time at prevailing market prices. ### Summer Sale - Claim 70% Off TipRanks AAOX: an alternative to margin or options on AAOI Applied Optoelectronics had raised about $1.05 billion in gross proceeds through ATM offerings by the end of June, selling close to 7.8 million shares along the way. Those transactions included a $500 million program completed in April, followed by sales through another $600 million facility launched during May. Friday's filing therefore opens the door to another sizable round of stock issuance after investors have absorbed substantial dilution this year. Yet, AAOI has been putting that capital toward a period of rapid expansion. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to expand its Pearland, Texas, manufacturing footprint by nearly 400,000 square feet as it works to increase production of 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers used in AI infrastructure. Management expects demand for those high-speed products to remain above available production capacity through the middle of 2027. Recent financial results show how fast the company has been growing alongside that expansion. Second-quarter revenue climbed 86% year-over-year to a record $191.9 million, marking the fifth consecutive quarter of record sales. The company returned to non-GAAP profitability with earnings of $0.06 per share, while 800G product volumes more than doubled sequentially during the period. Management expects another sizable increase during the third quarter as production continues expanding. The company guided for revenue between $255 million and $290 million, alongside non-GAAP earnings ranging from $0.11 to $0.26 per share. AAOI is working toward manufacturing capacity of around 650,000 800G and 1.6T units per month by year-end, compared with capacity approaching 200,000 units monthly when second-quarter results were released. Investors are now balancing AAOI's strong operating momentum against the dilution risk that comes with funding its rapid expansion. Demand for high-speed optical products remains robust, while sales and manufacturing capacity continue climbing. For now, Friday's after-hours plunge suggests investors are focusing more on the potential cost of that growth. Overall, Wall Street leans bullish on AAOI, although analysts differ on where the stock goes from here. AAOI earns a Moderate Buy consensus rating, with 3 analysts saying Buy and 2 remaining sidelined. The average 12-month price target stands at $163.40, representing about 31% upside from Friday's closing price.
