# The Week That Was, The Week Ahead: Macro and Markets, August 23

U.S. stocks finished Friday higher, ending a volatile week on a stronger note even as bond yields climbed and concerns over the country's growing debt load stayed in focus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average **(DJIA)** rose 0.98% to 53,277.01, although it still posted its second straight weekly decline. The S&P 500 **(SPX)** gained 0.43% to 7,674.37, while the Nasdaq **(NDX)** added 0.33% to 29,308.86.

The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield ended near 4.74%, reversing much of its recent decline. Gold **(CM:XAUUSD)** jumped 2.89% to $4,668.10, while oil **(CM:CL)** fell 1.65% to $86.77. Bitcoin **(BTC-USD)** was another standout, climbing 5.13% to $78,262.70. The VIX fell 3.31% to 15.13.
