He contends that AI competes with BTC for speculative capital, electricity, and data centers, while also potentially discovering vulnerabilities in its code. Conversely, some argue AI threatens gold more than crypto. Meanwhile, major exchanges like Binance are deploying AI to counter scams, and mining firms are shifting focus toward AI contracts." datetime: "2026-08-24T03:59:03.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/296739876.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296739876.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/296739876.md) generator: "portal-rs" --- # Peter Schiff Says Hitching Bitcoin to Artificial Intelligence Wagon is a Mistake: AI Isn't 'Bullish' for BTC, It's a 'Threat' Economist **Peter Schiff** said on Sunday that AI is a threat to **Bitcoin** (CRYPTO: BTC), rather than serving as a positive catalyst for the cryptocurrency. ## Schiff Attacks BTC Pumpers’ In an X post, Schiff called out what he saw as attempts by “Bitcoin pumpers” to connect BTC with the AI trade. “They have it backwards. AI isn’t bullish for Bitcoin; it’s a threat to it,” he added. Schiff stated that AI threatens Bitcoin by competing for speculative capital, electricity, and data centers, while “powerful” AI could “discover vulnerabilities” in its code, cryptography, or network security. > Bitcoin pumpers are trying to hitch Bitcoin to the AI wagon, hoping investors will see it as part of the AI trade. They have it backwards. AI isn’t bullish for Bitcoin; it’s a threat to it. > > AI competes with Bitcoin for speculative capital, electricity, and data-center… > > — Peter Schiff (@PeterSchiff) August 23, 2026 ## The Counter-Argument **Q Trader**, a BTC maximalist, said, however, that AI represents a greater threat to gold than to Bitcoin. They argued that advanced AI technology could increase gold supply, reducing its scarcity and eventually causing prices to fall. > AI is a threat to gold more than it is to Bitcoin Peter > > — Q Trader (@xemcoin) August 23, 2026 **Read Also:Weekend Round-Up: Bitcoin's Best Week Since 2023, Coinbase CEO's Bullish Outlook and More** ## Will AI Really Threaten Bitcoin? The impact of AI on cryptocurrency and Bitcoin is the subject of an intense and ongoing debate. A report by the on-chain analytics firm Chainalysis found that AI-enabled cryptocurrency scams were 4.5 times more profitable than traditional scams in 2025. AI-related scams also showed greater time-weighted efficiency. However, some platforms have tried to neutralize the AI threat with AI itself. **Binance** (CRYPTO: BNB), the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, rolled out more than 24 AI-driven initiatives and over 100 AI models to counter emerging threats. The platform said that more than half of its fraud controls are AI-powered. Artificial intelligence has also become a major competitor to Bitcoin mining. A CoinShares report noted that mining revenue is projected to plummet from around 85% of total revenue in early 2025 to less than 20% by the end of 2026 for companies that have secured AI contracts. **MARA Holdings Inc.** (NASDAQ:MARA) CEO **Fred Thiel** said that investors place limited value on the Bitcoin mining business, but that the company’s expanding focus on energy generation and AI could get it more attention in the future. **Price Action**: At the time of writing, BTC was exchanging hands at $77,318, up 0.09% in the last 24 hours, according to data from Benzinga Pro. **Read Also:$219,000 to $60,000: Investor's MSTR Bet for Kids Takes a Big Hit, but Bitcoin Bull Michael Saylor Isn't Sugarcoating It: 'Be Prepared' for Difficult Years** *Photo Courtesy: Bigboss101 on Shutterstock.com* ### Related Stocks - [GBTC.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GBTC.US.md) - [BITB.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BITB.US.md) - [FBTC.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/FBTC.US.md) - [IBIT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/IBIT.US.md) - [ARKB.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/ARKB.US.md) - [BITO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BITO.US.md) - [BRRR.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BRRR.US.md) - [BTCO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BTCO.US.md) - [BTCW.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BTCW.US.md) - [HODL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/HODL.US.md) - [EZBC.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/EZBC.US.md) - [03008.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/03008.HK.md) - [03042.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/03042.HK.md) - [03430.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/03430.HK.md) - [BTCE.DE](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BTCE.DE.md) - [BITI.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BITI.US.md) - [YBIT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/YBIT.US.md) - [SBIT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/SBIT.US.md) - [BTFX.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BTFX.US.md) - [BTCZ.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BTCZ.US.md) - [BTCL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BTCL.US.md) - [BITX.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BITX.US.md) - [BITU.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BITU.US.md) ## Related News & Research - [Bitari Plans 4.29 Million-Share Offering at $7 Each to Raise About $30 Million](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296661507.md) - [Fundstrat Sees 30% Swing In Bitcoin’s Price](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296239209.md) - [Polymarket Faces Fresh Insider Trading Scrutiny After 152 Wallets Allegedly Made $8 Million Betting on US Military Markets: Report](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296501476.md) - [K33 boosts effective bitcoin exposure via Sixty Six option for up to 200 BTC](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296742890.md) - [Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company (BSTR) Terminates Business Combination, Team Continues Pursuing Active Bitcoin Treasury Management | CEPO Stock News](https://longbridge.com/en/news/296540800.md) --- > **Disclaimer: This article is for reference only and does not constitute any investment advice.**
