# Maple Finance Is Booming but SYRUP Hasn't Caught Up

Maple Finance (SYRUP-USD) is booming, but the SYRUP token has yet to catch up, in my view. The institutional onchain lending platform closed the first half of 2026 with $4.6 billion in assets under management (AUM), up 81% from a year earlier. Yet the SYRUP token trades around $0.19, down 76% from its June 2025 high.

Maple is now adding new ways to support SYRUP while expanding the reach of its lending platform. It launched a revenue-based buyback program in August 2026. Robinhood Markets (HOOD) recently selected Maple to power its yield-bearing stablecoin product, introducing a new distribution channel for institutional credit demand. Maple is bigger than ever, while the token remains cheaper than it has been in more than a year. I'm bullish on SYRUP.

## **What Maple Is and What Went Wrong in 2022**

Think of Maple as a lending desk that lives on a blockchain. Institutions come in, put up Bitcoin (BTC-USD) or Ethereum (ETH-USD) as security, and borrow against it at a fixed rate. The people providing the capital earn the interest. That is the whole model, and it wasn't always this strict.

In late 2022, the protocol suffered a $36 million default after borrower Orthogonal Trading misrepresented its financial position and was wiped out by the FTX collapse. Following the 2022 credit contagion, Maple moved away from undercollateralized loans toward strict overcollateralization. It also kept shorter loan durations and improved underwriting — a framework Maple says has maintained a clean credit record as its active loan book approaches $2 billion.
