SOFI Stock Soars 5% After Scotiabank Analyst Highlights Its Stronger Fintech Model

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

SOFI stock rose 5% after Scotiabank analyst Lance Jessurun initiated coverage with a Buy rating and $25 price target, citing SoFi's evolution into a broader fintech platform. Key drivers include 35% member growth, expanding deposits to $45.5 billion, and strong adjusted EBITDA. Piper Sandler also issued a bullish call. Despite positive sentiment, TipRanks consensus remains 'Hold' due to cash burn and competitive risks.

SoFi Technologies (SOFI) jumped about 5% on Wednesday after Scotiabank analyst Lance Jessurun initiated coverage of the stock with a Buy rating and a $25 price target, implying 40% upside potential from current level. The call boosted investor sentiment as the analyst said SoFi should not be viewed as just a consumer lender anymore. He noted that SoFi is turning into a broader financial platform, backed by strong growth in members, products, deposits, and fee revenue.

Why Analyst Says SoFi's Model Is Getting Stronger

Jessurun said SoFi's latest results showed a stronger business model taking shape. He pointed to strong Q2 numbers, such as 35% member growth and 42% product growth. More than half of new products were opened by existing members, reflecting deeper engagement across SoFi's offerings.

The analyst also highlighted SoFi's expanding deposit base, which reached $45.5 billion, and a net interest margin still in the high‑5% range. Adjusted EBITDA grew faster than adjusted revenue, which he said shows SoFi's bank charter is now clearly helping earnings.

Jessurun added that SoFi's loan platform business gives it another revenue stream. It allows the company to earn money from loan origination and underwriting without keeping every loan on its balance sheet. Because of all this, the analyst believes the market should rethink SoFi's valuation and see it as a fintech bank infrastructure company and not a cyclical lender.

While credit trends, funding costs, regulation, and valuation still matter, the analyst believes SoFi's strong member growth and capital‑light revenue give SoFi a good chance to beat Wall Street estimates over time.

Second Bullish Analyst Call

Importantly, Jessurun is the second analyst to have initiated coverage of SOFI stock on a bullish note. In mid-August, Piper Sandler's Patrick Moley started coverage on SoFi with a Buy rating and a $22 target, saying the stock has room to rise. He sees two growth drivers. These include steady demand from younger, high‑quality borrowers and more chances to sell extra financial products to existing members.

Moley also says the stock is a good long‑term entry point. He expects SoFi's revenue to grow about 22% a year from 2026 to 2028, with adjusted EBITDA rising even faster at 27% a year.

Is SoFi Stock a Good Buy?

According to TipRanks' consensus, SOFI stock has a Hold consensus rating based on seven Buys, six Holds, and three Sells assigned in the last three months. While SoFi shows strong member growth and better profit trends, the business still burns cash and faces tough lending competition. Also, near‑term funding, credit, and rate risks are keeping analysts neutral. At $20.57, the average SOFI stock price target implies a 14.99% upside potential.
