Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the public launch of the Cybercab robotaxi in Austin, describing it as a 'golden era' for mobility. The vehicle features integrated Starlink connectivity for 4K video streaming and aims to create over 30,000 high-paying jobs by 2028. While investor Ross Gerber praised the 'physical AI EV,' others remain skeptical about valuation. Tesla shares dipped 1.96% amid the rollout.

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk on Thursday touted a new era in mobility following the EV giant’s Cybercab launch, touting Starlink connectivity, workforce expansion and more.

A ‘Golden Era’ in Transport

User Doge Designer shared a video of the Cybercab on X, touting it as the “Golden Era.” Musk quoted the user’s post and offered his take. “Yes, we are indeed entering a literal golden era of transport,” the billionaire said. “That’s why Cybercab is gold!” he added.

Starlink Connectivity, Hiring Push

In a separate post, Musk also said that the cab will offer Space Exploration Technologies Corp.‘s (NASDAQ:SPCX) Starlink internet in the cab.

Quoting a post by the official Starlink handle, which said that the Starlink V5 service will soon be “directly” integrated into the Cybercab, Musk reaffirmed the move. “Starlink will allow you to watch 4k live video while riding in Cybercab,” he said.

He also touted a workforce expansion following the Cybercab’s launch. “Probably over 30k people working in high-paying jobs at Tesla HQ & manufacturing in Austin by 2028!” He said, quoting user Gail Alfar, who pointed to Tesla’s more than 16,000-employee workforce at Giga Texas and in Austin.

Notably, the CEO had earlier said that the advent of AI would lead to increased productivity among Tesla employees, reiterating that Tesla was not planning layoffs. Recently, Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:UBER) announced it was laying off 3,300 employees as part of a push towards autonomous vehicles.

Ross Gerber Backs Cybercab

Investor Ross Gerber, who is the co-founder of investment firm Gerber Kawasaki, had backed the Cybercab, touting it as the first-ever "physical AI EV." Gerber also said that it would be "very interesting" to see how the rollout progresses. The investor had also hailed the Cybercab’s design.

However, investor Gary Black of The Future Fund LLC has expressed skepticism about Tesla bulls’ high valuation estimates based on autonomous pursuits, saying that unsupervised autonomy will be “table stakes” in the mobility sector in the near future.
