Netflix is optimizing its iOS app for Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo, featuring a 7.6-inch screen. The updated app redesigns the Billboard promotional feature with dynamic visuals, adapts Clips for seamless vertical-horizontal switching, and reimagines playback controls to remain intuitive whether the device is folded, propped, or held. These enhancements aim to deliver an immersive 'big-screen feeling' on the mobile platform.

Apple has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, which has a 7.6-inch diagonal screen when opened up. And Netflix is here for it.

Netflix is among the handful of partners who have worked with Apple to redesign their iOS apps for the larger screen real estate of the iPhone Duo, and to take advantage of its

“When members use Netflix on iOS, they want that same immersive, big-screen feeling to travel with them,” a company spokesperson told Variety. The streamer’s upcoming iOS 27 version of the app designed for the iPhone Duo “reimagines Billboard, our new playback controls and Clips for the new device.”

Here are details on what to expect from Netflix’s Duo-optimized app:

  • Billboard: For the new iOS experience on iPhone Duo, Netflix has a version of Billboard — the interactive promotional card feature at the top of the mobile interface — that “brings entertainment to life in your hands.” The new iteration of Billboard features “dynamic visual effects enhanced by the display,” Netflix says.
  • Clips: The Netflix app’s Clips, a TikTok-style vertical video feed featuring snippets from shows and movies, can use the device’s wide screen, “switching seamlessly and frame-accurately between vertical and horizontal so your phone adapts to what you’re watching and how you want to enjoy it.”
  • Playback: Netflix has redesigned the player for iPhone Duo so its controls “move with you, adapting seamlessly no matter how you’re watching – full screen, folded or propped up,” the company says. When propped up especially, Netflix “rethought how controls should behave alongside our members, so they stay intuitive and within reach no matter how you’re interacting with the device,” the company rep says. In addition, Netflix added a “subtle, reflective glow” to the controls that responds to ambient light and the angle of the device; that’s a “small touch that pulls you just a little deeper into whatever you’re watching,” per the streamer.

The iPhone Duo is priced starting at $1,999 with 256 gigabytes of storage, and costs up to $3,199 for a model with 2 terabytes. Preorders start Oct. 16 and the device will begin shipping Oct. 23.
