PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Comcast Business today announced a collaboration with Equinix, the world’s digital infrastructure company®, that will allow enterprises to order Comcast Business last-mile connectivity through standards-based APIs directly within Equinix Fabric®, Equinix’s software-defined interconnection service that enables customers to digitally connect their distributed infrastructure.
The collaboration builds on the Innovation Lab’s work with Colt Technology Services, announced earlier this quarter, to advance cross-carrier API interoperability and simplify how network services are delivered across providers. Both programs support Comcast Business’s strategy to make enterprise connectivity easier to discover, order, and deploy through software and partner ecosystems.
Comcast Business already connects customers to more than 700 data centers nationwide, and offers data center solutions including cross connects, cloud on-ramps, and data center interconnect. Today, enterprises can deploy cloud infrastructure, AI platforms, and applications in minutes through software. Yet, across much of the industry, the last-mile connection that links those facilities to offices, campuses, stores, and users is one of the last pieces still ordered by hand.
Companies moving workloads into colocation feel that friction the most, with compute and applications ready in minutes while they wait weeks for the connection that reaches the people who use it.

Qualified partners will be able to check whether Comcast Business serves a location, get pricing, and place an order digitally, enabling those capabilities to be surfaced through experiences such as Equinix Fabric. Comcast Business delivers that through its digital orchestration platform, using industry-standard APIs aligned with the Mplify (formerly MEF) Lifecycle Service Orchestration framework. The interface follows an industry standard rather than a proprietary Comcast Business specification, so partners integrate once and reach the network through methods they already use elsewhere.
In the initial phase, Equinix Fabric customers will be able to digitally order Comcast Business last-mile Ethernet connectivity to eligible locations, while Comcast Business provisions the connection, with the goal of cutting delivery time from weeks to days. The companies will validate the approach with enterprise customers in live environments during this phase. Over time, the program is designed to extend to optical wavelengths, cloud connectivity, and cybersecurity.
