JPMorgan Tweaks Hims & Hers Stock Outlook on Key Risk

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

JPMorgan resumed coverage of Hims & Hers Health at Neutral with a $32 price target, citing regulatory pressure on its compounded GLP-1 weight-loss business. The bank highlights the risk that shifting to branded treatments may compress near-term margins, despite potential offset from partnerships with Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly. Investors are advised to monitor execution on this transition, growth in new specialties, and international expansion to ensure durable margin expansion.

Hims & Hers Health faces a more complicated growth path as regulatory pressure reshapes its weight-loss business, prompting JPMorgan to resume coverage at Neutral with a $32 price target. The target implies roughly 17% upside from the Sept. 10 close, but the bank wants clearer evidence that Hims can successfully transition from compounded GLP-1 drugs toward branded treatments without sacrificing margins.

Hims & Hers operates a direct-to-consumer telehealth platform offering treatments across weight loss, sexual health, dermatology, mental health and other categories. The company generates revenue primarily through subscriptions and prescription medications delivered through its digital platform.

JPMorgan analyst Brian Smilek had previously rated the shares Overweight before coverage was suspended in June. While he remains constructive on Hims' vertical integration and expansion into new specialties and international markets, he said, "we look for execution across the strategic transition toward branded GLP-1s, durability of growth across newer specialties, deeper international penetration, and durable margin expansion."

The biggest near-term challenge is weight-loss economics.

Greater FDA scrutiny has constrained Hims' compounded GLP-1 business, forcing the company to lean more heavily on branded medications. Its partnership with Novo Nordisk , which gives customers access to Wegovy and Ozempic, "should more than offset compounded GLP-1 headwinds," Smilek said.

Hims also offers Eli Lilly treatments including Zepbound and Foundayo.

The tradeoff is profitability. JPMorgan warned that "near-term adjusted EBITDA margins face headwinds from the mix shift toward branded GLP-1s," because branded medicines generally offer less attractive economics than compounded products.

Investors Takeaway

The central question is whether Hims can replace lost compounded-GLP-1 economics with enough branded-drug volume and growth elsewhere to preserve its earnings trajectory.

Investors should monitor branded GLP-1 adoption, adjusted EBITDA margins and growth across newer specialties and international markets. Success in those areas would strengthen the case that Hims is becoming a broader healthcare platform rather than relying heavily on compounded weight-loss drugs.

JPMorgan also sees peptides as another potential growth opportunity. But until Hims proves the transition can support both revenue growth and durable margin expansion, the $32 target suggests upside may remain constrained by execution risk.
