Intel Got Its Waiver: Intel Stock (NASDAQ:INTC) Gains

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Intel received a one-year FCC waiver to continue using foreign-made robotic tools, preventing disruptions in domestic semiconductor manufacturing. Following the approval, Intel stock rose over 1.5%. While analysts maintain a 'Hold' consensus with an average price target of $111.68, Maverick Capital's David Tykocinski predicts significant upside driven by AI demand for CPUs, suggesting potential earnings growth and a path toward becoming a trillion-dollar company.

Just three days ago, we got word that chip stock Intel (INTC) was looking for a waiver from the federal government that would allow it to continue using a set of robotic tools that it was already using in its factories. The waiver was granted late yesterday, reports noted, which comes as little surprise. Intel stock gained over 1.5% in Friday afternoon's trading, and Intel has seen a 123.33% rally in its share price over the past year.

They Really Needed Those Robots

The issue at hand was that Intel needed a set of robotic devices that would help it make chips. But, under certain sections of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, foreign-made advanced robotics were not always allowed in the United States. With the waiver, Intel can continue to use the devices that it already has in place.

The FCC ultimately granted a one-year waiver of its own rules in a bid to prevent what it described as "…potential disruptions in the availability of domestic semiconductor manufacturing services for Intel's customers." Intel cited the fact that there were few, if any, domestically-produced alternatives that would have met the necessary requirements to actually carry out the tasks Intel needed them to carry out. It likely did not hurt that the United States government is a 10% owner of Intel, and likely did not want to do anything that might have impacted its investment therein.

The Next Trillion-Dollar Company?

Meanwhile, David Tykocinski—co-chief investment officer of Maverick Capital—has high hopes for Intel stock, believing that Intel could ultimately become the next trillion-dollar company. Tykocinski's projections are nothing new, but his making them serves as one more brick in a growing wall of credibility for Intel.

Basically his projections suggest that the rise of agentic AI is going to help Intel, because agentic AI depends heavily on central processing unit (CPU) chips. This rise will not solely help Intel, but will rather help other companies in the field that also specialize in CPUs. Intel's lead in the CPU space, however, may mean this development will help it more than others. This means that Intel has an upside of over 100% earnings growth in the next couple of years, reports noted.

Is Intel a Buy, Hold or Sell?

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on INTC stock based on six Buys, 20 Holds and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. The average INTC price target of $111.68 per share implies 28.21% upside potential.
