The RMB central parity against the USD was set at 6.8167, up 9 bps MoM, marking the highest level since February 14, 2023. The People's Bank of China conducted RMB11 billion of seven-day reverse repos in the open market today (1st) at an unchanged rate of 1.4%. With RMB258 billion of reverse repos maturing, there was a net withdrawal of RMB247 billion for the day. The three major A-share indices opened mixed before turning lower collectively, closing down 0.3% to 2.2% for the day.

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 10 points, or 0.27%, to close at 4,057, with turnover of RMB1.32 trillion. The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 234 points, or 1.51%, to 15,340, with turnover of RMB1.56 trillion. The ChiNext Index slid 87 points, or 2.15%, to 3,950, with turnover of RMB728.5 billion.

Bank stocks were mixed. ICBC (601398.SH) +0.080 (+1.108%) rose 1.1%, while CCB (601939.SH) +0.120 (+1.205%) gained 1.2%. Insurers declined, with CHINA LIFE (601628.SH) -0.250 (-0.739%) down 0.7% and CHINA PACIFIC INSURANCE (601601.SH) -0.160 (-0.497%) off 0.5%. BYD Company (002594.SZ) -2.530 (-2.630%) fell 2.6%, and CONTEMPORARY AMPEREX (300750.SZ) -3.900 (-0.920%) slipped 0.9%.

Chipmakers were broadly lower. SMIC (688981.SH) -7.470 (-5.339%) dropped 5.3%, HUA HONG (688347.SH) -13.780 (-5.822%) lost 5.8%, and CAMBRICON (688256.SH) -72.000 (-5.496%) slid 5.5%. Domestic GPU names METAX (688802.SH) -38.420 (-5.683%) and MOORE THREADS (688795.SH) -42.970 (-6.683%) fell 5.7% and 6.7%, respectively. LQKJ (688008.SH) -20.700 (-8.182%) tumbled 8.2%. Optical fibre maker YANGTZE OPTICAL FIBRE (601869.SH) -31.230 (-7.753%) declined 7.8%, while memory chip firm GIGADEVICE (603986.SH) +0.990 (+0.212%) edged up 0.2%.

Power stocks strengthened, with YUE POWER A (000539.SZ) +0.890 (+10.023%) , JH POWER (000767.SZ) +0.560 (+10.036%) and JIANGSU GUOXIN (002608.SZ) +0.920 (+10.000%) hitting their daily upper limits.
