CITIC Securities Reports Record Growth in Industrial Profits and Revenue
CITIC Securities reported on May 29 that industrial enterprises in April saw record growth in both profits and revenue. According to Jin10, state-owned and joint-stock enterprises experienced rapid profit growth, while foreign enterprises saw a marginal decline. Despite a divergence in volume and price, overall profit recovery remained strong, supported by improvements in pricing and profit margins. The unexpected recovery in the Producer Price Index (PPI) was a key factor. However, weak recovery in volume, affected by demand and investment, posed a challenge. At the industry level, upstream sectors saw significant profit growth, while downstream sectors experienced marginal recovery, and the share of profits in midstream sectors continued to rise. Leading industries included coal, non-ferrous metals, computer communications, and chemical raw materials, with the coal industry showing notable profit recovery. Looking ahead, while there was previously a cautious sentiment, companies are now showing increased willingness to restock. Future attention will be needed on changes in external demand and the impact of rising raw material prices on production expansion and long-term profits.
