SAIC Motor's (SSE: 600104) MG brand announced that its all-new coupe sedan, the MG 07, will begin pre-sales in China on July 29.

A poster released by MG on Monday positions the MG 07 as a "pure-blooded intelligent coupe for young people," signaling that the automaker is expanding its EV lineup to capture China's mainstream market.

In the poster, the model appears in an eye-catching purple exterior, emphasizing individuality and a sporty style. The brand hopes to attract young consumers who value color and design.

The first mass-production MG 07 rolled off the line at SAIC Passenger Vehicle's Zhengzhou base on July 2. On the same day, the base reached the milestone of its 3 millionth vehicle produced.

The new car is built on SAIC's next-generation new energy vehicle (NEV) platform. It is the MG brand's first pure-electric NEV coupe, with pricing set to fall between 150,000 yuan ($22,100) and 200,000 yuan.

The MG 07 measures 4,886 millimeters in length, 1,900 millimeters in width and 1,485 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 millimeters.

The new car features a fastback hatchback design, paired with four frameless doors and semi-hidden door handles.

Intelligence is one of the MG 07's core selling points. The car is among the first to adopt the R7 world model solution from Chinese intelligent-driving startup Momenta, matched with LiDAR. This makes it the first model in the MG brand equipped with LiDAR.

The MG 07 offers both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid options. The pure-electric version is equipped with a 67-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Under CLTC conditions, this version offers two range options of 650 kilometers and 610 kilometers.

The plug-in hybrid version uses a 30-kilowatt-hour battery pack, with a WLTC pure-electric range of 185 kilometers.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter engine and a drive motor. The engine has a maximum power of 82 kilowatts, while the drive motor has a peak power of 152 kilowatts (204 hp).

Currently, MG's EVs on sale mainly include the MG4 EV hatchback and the MG Cyberster convertible. The entry-market-oriented MG4 EV has an official starting price of 68,800 yuan, or 65,800 yuan after a limited-time subsidy.

The MG Cyberster sports car carries an official guide price of roughly 319,800 yuan to 365,800 yuan. In addition, the brand has launched the MG 4X, a pure-electric SUV equipped with a semi-solid-state battery pack.
