Chinese tech giants Ant Group, Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu unveiled new enterprise AI agent products at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. This move highlights intensifying domestic rivalry to capture business clients as adoption of agent-based AI accelerates. Key launches include Ant's 'Agentar 2.0', Tencent's WorkBuddy app, Alibaba's 'Meoo Team', and Baidu's updated 'DuMate'. These platforms aim to integrate AI into real-world operations, focusing on restructuring enterprise workflows and boosting collective productivity rather than just individual task efficiency.
Chinese tech giants are doubling down on enterprise artificial intelligence agents with new products unveiled at the country’s top AI summit, signalling heightened domestic rivalry to win over business clients as agent-based AI adoption accelerates. At the four-day World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai which concludes on Monday, major tech companies including Ant Group, Tencent Holdings, Alibaba Group Holding and Baidu launched or showcased offerings designed to integrate AI into real-world enterprise operations. Ant Digital Technologies, the digital technology arm of Alibaba’s fintech affiliate Ant Group, on Sunday unveiled “Agentar 2.0”, a platform described as a “commercial AI agent super factory”. The system, upgraded from a version launched last year, featured 200 pre-configured “digital expert templates” and hundreds of out-of-the-box agent tools, enabling companies to deploy autonomous AI workers without building them from scratch, according to Ant Digital. Ant Group CEO Cyril Han Xinyi said on Sunday the company was seeking to create AI agents that could restructure enterprise workflows rather than simply accelerate individual tasks. “This shifts the focus from individual efficiency to a wholesale upgrade of the organisation’s collective productivity,” Han said. “We believe this is where the ultimate value lies.” Other Chinese tech heavyweights are also rapidly expanding their presence in enterprise applications. Tencent announced on Saturday the launch of a dedicated app for WorkBuddy – its AI productivity agent – across iOS, Android and Huawei Technologies’ HarmonyOS systems. The app allowed users to remotely control desktop tasks or execute cloud-based workflows, making WorkBuddy the first general-purpose AI agent app available on Huawei’s operating system, the company said. Beyond software, the Shenzhen-based tech giant also revealed a strategic partnership with Hefei-based AI eyewear start-up Lawaken to embed the agent into smart glasses. Alibaba on Saturday also flexed its muscles in enterprise AI by launching “Meoo Team”, a platform to help businesses manage resources and asset ownership while developing customised AI applications. Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post. Baidu showcased the latest versions of its general-purpose AI agent “DuMate”, which was selected as one of the event’s top 10 exhibits. The company first released the enterprise edition of the agent earlier this month. Daily queries to the agent had increased 20-fold since its launch in March, according to Baidu.
