One-in-Four Odds the Merger Fails, Say Kalshi, Polymarket; Paramount Skydance (NASDAQ:PSKY) Stock Gains Regardless
I'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.Prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket assign a 22-23% failure probability to the Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, citing lawsuits and regulatory hurdles. Despite these odds and controversy over an editorial board proposal, Paramount (PSKY) stock rose slightly. Analysts maintain a 'Hold' consensus with a $10.50 price target.
The merger between entertainment giant Paramount Skydance (PSKY) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has not gone well. With multiple lawsuits leveled at it, and a potential move out of California leveled at it as well, it would be easy to think that the merger may ultimately fail after all. In fact, prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket both have a dim view of the merger's odds. Investors, however, found this welcome news, and Paramount shares gained fractionally in the closing minutes of Monday's trading.

Three Out of Four Ain't Bad
The news is not bad, inherently. Kalshi traders believe there is a 74% chance the deal will go through by July 2027. However, there are also 22% odds that the trade does not go through by that date. The deal was designed to terminate automatically on March 4, 2027. This only sounds like a problem, however, as it has automatic extension clauses that push the final date to June 4, 2027 if only regulatory obstacles are left, which seems to be the case. Polymarket has materially the same odds, with a 23% chance of failure instead of 22%.
Choking on the Editorial Board
Meanwhile, Paramount's plans to bring in an editorial board to oversee CNN, should the merger go through, are not sitting well either. Some are taking the idea in stride, with one staffer pointing out that editorial independence is a good idea on general principles. Others, however, were less serene, calling it the equivalent of "…throwing spaghetti at a wall," asserting the editorial board would be "…useless at best, paralyzing at worst." Some even point out that the connection between David Ellison and Donald Trump would likely overwhelm an editorial board to begin with, making it largely meaningless.
Is Paramount Stock a Good Buy Right Now?
Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on PSKY stock based on two Buys, four Holds and three Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 24.89% loss in its share price over the past year, the average PSKY price target of $10.50 per share implies 2.44% upside potential.
