LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Salesforce (CRM) stock surged on Tuesday, driven by a $1.6 billion federal AI contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and a sector rotation into enterprise software. The stock rose 4.71% to $181.78, breaking past short-term moving averages. Despite improved momentum indicators, the long-term trend remains bearish as shares trade below the 200-day SMA. Analysts maintain a consensus Buy rating with an average price target of $238.43 ahead of Q2 earnings.

Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) stock is surging on Tuesday following a $1.6 billion federal AI contract, strong enterprise AI monetization data, and a market rotation out of semiconductor stock into enterprise software. The Nasdaq is down 0.68% while the S&P 500 has gained 0.34%.

Federal AI Contract Surge

The company secured a $1.6 billion, three-year Agentic Enterprise License Agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Salesforce said Friday the deal deploys agentic AI, Slack, MuleSoft, Data 360 and Tableau to modernize care for more than 17 million veterans.

Sector Rebound Dynamics

Software stocks traded higher despite a profit warning from International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM), supported by strong earnings from SAP SE (NYSE:SAP) and ServiceNow Inc. (NYSE:NOW), according to Benzinga Pro.

Separately, Apollo Chief Economist Torsten Slok wrote Monday that capital is increasingly flowing to foundational software companies that provide the data pipelines and computing infrastructure powering generative AI.

Earnings In Focus

Salesforce is expected to report fiscal second-quarter results on Sept. 2. Analysts expect earnings of $3.09 per share, up from $2.91 a year earlier, on revenue of $11.31 billion, compared with $10.24 billion last year.

The stock carries a consensus Buy rating with an average analyst price forecast of $238.43. Recent analyst actions include a downgrade to Equal-Weight from Morgan Stanley on July 21 with a price forecast of $185, a Hold initiation from CLSA on July 20 with a $165 price forecast, and an Outperform rating from Evercore ISI Group on July 14 with a reduced price forecast of $250.

Critical Levels To Watch for CRM Stock

Salesforce traded 9.6% above its 20-day simple moving average of $167.37 and 7.5% above its 50-day SMA of $170.65. The stock also remained 3.3% above its 100-day SMA of $177.52.

However, it continued to trade 10.9% below its 200-day SMA of $205.98, indicating the longer-term trend remains negative.

The moving-average setup is still bearish. The 20-day SMA remains below the 50-day SMA, while the 50-day SMA remains below the 200-day SMA. That structure suggests the broader downtrend has not yet reversed.

Momentum indicators have improved. The MACD remains above its signal line and the histogram is positive, indicating buyers have gained near-term control. Key technical levels include:

  • Resistance: $211.50, near the 200-day moving average.
  • Support: $156.50, a previous buying zone above the 52-week low of $146.32.

CRM Stock Price Activity: Salesforce shares were up 4.71% at $181.78 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
