Rising Shorts
Defence stocks are coming under shorting pressure, with short interest for both Electro Optic Systems and Droneshield sitting at record levels. Both have sold off aggressively in recent weeks, EOS down 43% from its 2 June record high and Droneshield off around 35% over the same period. Minerals 260 has seen its short interest spike from around 1.5% in mid-June to a record 4.66%, after the company released the PFS for its Bullabulling Gold Project in Western Australia. The stock fell 16.5% on the day (8 July) on concerns about capital intensity relative to prior expectations. Elsewhere, plenty of resource names including Genesis (set to merge with Vault Minerals), Develop Global, Firefly Metals and Vulcan Energy are seeing short interest rise against a volatile backdrop for commodity markets, with the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index down 13.7% since its 17 June record high.
