President Trump announced on Saturday that he plans to hold a political rally to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary after several artists said they will no longer perform at the upcoming Great American State Fair on the National Mall.

“I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance on Wednesday, so I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar, the man who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists,’ and give a major speech, rallying the Country forward like I have done ever since being President!” the president wrote in a Truth Social post on Saturday afternoon.

The president added that he has directed his representatives “to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location.”

A White House spokesperson referred back to Trump’s post when The Hill reached out for more information about this rally.

Freedom 250, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to organize these anniversary events, told The Hill in a Saturday statement that the fair will “bring together all states and territories” for an event to “showcase the very best of America” through attractions, exhibits, musical performances and more.

“As the visionary behind the Great American State Fair, we are excited to announce that President Trump will personally kick off this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 24 in an opening ceremony celebrating America’s 250th birthday,” Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez said.

Multiple artists said they would no longer perform at the planned Great American State Fair on the mall after the lineup’s announcement drew public backlash.

Country singer Martina McBride said she was misled about the event when she agreed to sign on to perform.

“I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,” McBride wrote in an Instagram post. “I asked lots of questions and was assured this was a nonpartisan event that was meant to celebrate ALL 50 states.”

Similarly, American rock singer Bret Michaels shared in an Instagram post on Friday that he made the “difficult decision to step away from the performance.” He also cited safety concerns for his fans, band, crew, himself and his family.

“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,” he wrote.

Freedom 250 is organizing a host of other events to mark America’s semiquincentennial, including a UFC fight on the White House lawn, a World Cup fan center on the National Mall and a large-scale fireworks show in the nation’s capital on Independence Day.
