Real estate stocks edge down as investor attention turns to cyclicals
Real estate stocks declined as investor focus shifted to technology and cyclical sectors. While the S&P 500 hit record highs driven by tech earnings and lower Treasury yields, high mortgage rates continued to suppress housing demand. The S&P 500 Real Estate Index fell 0.12%, with REIT indices also down. CoStar led large-cap gainers, while Host Hotels & Resorts was the top loser. Mid- and small-cap performances varied, with Compass rising on positive guidance and JBG SMITH Properties falling sharply.
